How to reach 'Prescription ' sub-module within 'Clinic EMR' ?
Step 1 : Go to Clinic EMR by clicking on 'Clinic EMR' link in left menu as shown in the screenshot below :
Step 2 : Click on the 'Prescription' tab as shown in the screenshot below to reach 'Prescription' section within clinic emr :
How to add new 'Prescription' for a particular patient ?
Please follow these steps to add prescription for a given patient :
Step 1 : Go to 'Prescription' sub-module within EMR module(steps mentioned in previous section of this article). Once you reach 'Prescription' sub-modue, please click on the "+Add Prescription" button as shown in the screenshot below.
Step 2 : A pop-up layer of 'Add Prescription' will open, here please select patient and appointment and then click on 'Continue' button as shown in screenshot below (incase there is no appointment scheduled for the patient then click on blue link which says "+Add New Appointment" to add appointment for the patient and then select appointment) :
Step 3 : Once you click 'Continue', it will open the full 'Add Prescription' form , here you can add drug as shown in screenshot below :
Step 4 : Once you have added drug , then fill details like Instructions, dosage, frequency, duration for that drug as shown in screenshot below . Now if required you can add more drugs by clicking "Add Drug" dropdown and repeat this steps until all the required drugs are added .
NOTE-1 : Incase drug you would like to add is not present in the dropdown then you can click on blue color '+Add New Drug' link to add drug to the catalogue as shown in the screenshot below. Once new drug is added then you can select the drug from the 'Add Drug' dropdown .
Note-2 : You can also quickly add drug in a single click from your 'Most Used Drug' catalogue by simply clicking on the '+Add' button as shown in the screenshot below .

How can i add my most used 'Drug Catalogue' in prescription ? How to edit it later from settings ?
STEP 5 (Optional Step) : Incase you feel this prescription will be used frequently then you can also save this prescription as one of the prescription template as shown in the screenshot below :
- Click 'Save Prescription Template' and provide the name of the prescription template .
- Click 'Save Template'
Do provide suitable name (can be related to illness) so that you are able to quickly search it later and select the template to populate all the drugs automatically with single click . You can read more about populating your 'Prescription Template' by going to this section of this article :
STEP 6 : Finally once all the drugs are added along with instructions and filled optional 'Prescription Notes' field in the prescription then you can save the prescription by clicking blue "Save" button as shown in the screenshot below :
This will save the prescription, close this pop-layer and show recently added prescription as mentioned in next section .Where can i see recently added prescription of a patient ?
Once you add prescription, it will be visible on the top in the 'Prescription' sub-module of the 'EMR' section as shown in the screenshot below :
What actions can i take against already written prescription of a patient ?
Step 1 : Simply click on the 'Action' button present on the right side of recently saved prescription to view options as shown in the screenshot below :
Step 2 : Now click on the required section from the dropdown as shown in the screenshot below :
Following options are available against a prescription :
- View : View only prescription
- View with Clinical Notes : View prescription along with clinical notes (only if clinical note was added along with prescription . Click here to know more about adding clinic notes in prescription )
- Print : Print only prescription
- Print with Clinical Notes : Print prescription with clinical notes
- Edit : Edit Prescription
- SMS : SMS Prescription
- Email : Email Prescription
- Delete : Delete Prescription
How can i add drugs to 'Most Used Drug' catalogue in prescription ? How to edit it later from settings ?
Here are the steps to add your favourite drugs in the 'Most Used Drug' catalogue an later manage your customised drug catalogue :
A. STEPS TO ADD DRUGS IN DRUG CATALOGUE :
STEP 1 : Go to 'Prescription' sub-module within EMR section and then click on '+Add Prescription' as shown in screenshot below :
STEP 2 : In the add prescription form , click on green color '+Add Drug' button in the 'Most Used Drug' section as shown in screenshot below :
STEP 3 : Click on '+Add Drug' will open a pop-up layer on 'Add Drug', here fill type of drug, drug name , strength, instructions .
STEP 4 : Once above details are added , then click 'SAVE' .

STEP 5 : This will save the drug in your 'Most Used Drug' catalogue as shown in screenshot below :NOTE : Repeat above steps to populate all your top prescribed drugs in your 'Most Used Drug' catalogue, this will help you quickly add drugs using single click in future .
B. USING DRUG CATALOGUE TO POPULATE DRUGS IN PRESCRIPTION :
Once you have added all your most used drugs, you can easily find it on the right side and quickly add the drug to prescription without any need of typing as shown in screenshot below :
C. DRUG CATALOGUE SETTINGS :
You can also manage your most used 'Drug Catalogue' by following these steps :
STEP 1 : Go to 'Practice Settings'
STEP 2 : Next go to 'Drug Catalogue' settings :
STEP 3 : Add/Edit/Delete drugs from your most used drug catalogue :
How can i save my frequently used prescriptions as 'Prescription Templates' ? How to manage prescription template settings ?
A. STEPS TO ADD PRESCRIPTIONS IN 'PRESCRIPTION TEMPLATES' :
In the 'Add Prescription' form once you have added all required drugs, you can also save this prescription as one of the prescription template as shown in the screenshot below :
Steps to save prescription template : (match point number below with those in screenshot for better understanding)
STEP 1 : Click 'Save Prescription Template' and provide the name of the prescription template
STEP 2 : Click 'Save Template'
NOTE : You may repeat above step to save all your frequent prescriptions as prescription template. This will help you quickly select required prescription going forward with a single click as described in next point .
B. USING PRESCRIPTION TEMPLATE TO POPULATE PRESCRIPTION :
To use saved prescription template, follow these steps :
STEP 1 : Click on 'Select Template' drop down as shown in the screenshot below :
STEP 2 : Click on required 'Prescription Template' . For example 'Malaria' in the screenshot below :
STEP 3 : Moment you click on one of the saved template (e.g. "Malaria"), it automatically populates all the drugs saved in the template as shown in screenshot below :
Finally you can fill instructions, dosage, frequency, duration etc details for each drug and save prescription .
C. PRESCRIPTION TEMPLATE SETTINGS :
You can also manage 'Prescription Templates' in settings by following these steps :
STEP 1 : Go to 'Practice Settings'
STEP 2 : Next go to 'Prescription Templates' settings :
STEP 3 : Manage/Delete 'Prescription Templates' which you dont want to use anymore :
What if i need to also add clinical notes along with prescription ? Is there a shortcut while writing prescription for that ?
Yes there is a shortcut to write clinical note along with the prescription. You simply need to click on the '+Add Clinical Notes' button as shown in the screenshot below :This will open fields related to clinical notes as shown in screenshot below :
Also you have an option to print only prescription or prescription along with clinical notes as shown in screenshot below :
- Print : Only prints prescription .
- Print With Clinical Notes : Prints prescription along with clinical notes .
